The UpCycle Project’s mission, is to raise awareness on the waste the global fashion industry creates through UpCycling.

 THE DETRIMENTAL IMPACT

Second to oil, the fashion industry is the most polluting in the world. It takes more than 5,000 gallons of water to make a t-shirt and a pair of jeans.

Up to 95% of the textiles that end up in the landfill could be recycled.

A TEXTILE WASTE PROBLEM

The US generates an average of 25 Billion LBS of post-consumer textile waste every year. Only an average of 3.8 Billion LBS are recovered through Donations and Recycling. Clothing made from polyester take up to 200 years to breakdown in a landfill.

THE SOLUTION

Our goal is that consumers as well as designers be attuned to the environmental impactand wellbeing of the people behind their designs. Together we help move fashion forward into a sustainably sourced and ethically made industry.

SUSTAINABILITY STARTS WITH THE DESIGNER

The UpCycleProject creates strategic partnerships with design schools to mentor students on fashion sustainability and encourage them to create UpCycled designs with materials that otherwise would have been discarded.

INVOLVING OUR COMMUNITY

PARTNERS

Our partners range from, ethical retail stores, organizations who want to make a difference, fashion brands looking to donate their wasted materials, as well as dry cleaning chains.

CHALLENGE

Each project is designed to challenge students creativity by limiting them to use the donated material or source from other forms of textile waste.

MENTOR

Established designers share their knowledge to guide an encourage designers to use UpCycled materials, as well as provide practical skills on how to create pieces true to their design style.

INSPIRING PEOPLE ONE DAY AT A TIME

The UpCycle Project not only brings awareness to sustainable fashion and recycling through the students work, but also by promoting their designs through a series of intimate Fashion Talks with conscious fashion lovers, fashion professionals, social influencers and the media.

Our goal is to establish a new generation of sustainable designers and create a community of consumers that that will help disrupt the fashion industry.

THE DENIM PROJECT & FASHION EVOLVE COUTURE

As part of our commitment with the evolution of the fashion industry, we have two different programs developed for students and high end designers.

THE DENIM PROJECT

In efforts to raise awareness on the environmental impact the production of denim has on our planet, we created the denim project. The senior year fashion students from DASH, were challenged to deconstruct second hand denim and give them a fabulous second life.

FASHION EVOLVE COUTURE

An exclusive Fashion Evolved art exhibit where established designers will have the opportunity to help impact the fashion industry by creating one of a kind pieces while UpCycling collections that have been forgotten or discarded.

The UpCycled Couture was showcased and auctioned at the exhibit during Art Basel Miami Beach 2017.
